Although my favorite tropes are Enemies-to-Lovers and Friends-to-Lovers, a second chance romance here and there ain't never hurt nobody (lol). In second chance romances, I truly enjoy seeing the journey of how the characters usually find love, joy, happiness, and trust, only to lose it all for whatever reason and then push through the pain and heartbreak to have it all once again. The heartbreak and/or betrayal usually brings such a level of distrust and devastation that it's usually extremely difficult to heal from the trauma and pain from that experience.
Watching one of the characters in a second chance romance be persistent and vulnerable enough to hold on to the hope that they will find their way back to love is so invigorating to read, especially when the couple works through the pain of the heartbreak to rebuild trust and embraces forgiveness. In life that is often so difficult to do and this book captures the true essence of it all, the joy and pain throughout the process.
This story takes you back and forth between the present and past to gain insight on the true experience of their journey to falling in love and the devastation that eventually occurred. I don't usually enjoy jumping between past and present but it is necessary to understand the full story and journey of the love between the two characters. I truly loved this story and how Rayla gave in to love, trust, and forgiveness, while Ajani was determined to get win back his one and only true love. They found their way back to love and how Ajani was determined and FINALLY fought to get there was so inspiring. Now...I'm gonna need Calese to hush and chill out AND go sit down somewhere (we all have that one ride or die friend lol). I understand how Calese feels but she had too much negative advice for me while going home to a WHOLE fine ass man so I needed her to slack up a bit on that negative pressure and advice she was applying which she eventually did...I'm a whole sucka for love and second chances (lol).
I truly loved this book and you will too, I definitely recommend reading.
No one does second chance love stories quite like Brookelyn Mosley! The flashbacks always add depth and key character/plot development. I loved seeing Ray and Jay get their happily ever after. I won't lie, Jay had me upset with how he broke Ray's heart, but there was no doubt that he loved her deep and did what he needed to do to get her back. Their love truly was so tender and sweet!
